The Carreau du Temple

The market was first made out of wood and then metal, housing the Foire de Paris and becoming the hotspot in Paris for second-hand clothes. The Carreau du Temple recently opened its doors again after undergoing a facelift. The stunning 19th century building attracts sports lovers and artists, as they make the most of a unique, flexible venue in the heart of the 3rd arrondissement. The venue boasts an eclectic programme, with fashion shows and concerts, not to mention exhibitions and events. The venue aims to promote up-and-coming artists in what can only be described as a temple of discovery.

The Marché des Enfants Rouges

The Marché des Enfants Rouges, a historic market in the centre of Paris, owes its name to the Enfants Rouges orphanage, which was set up in the 16th century and shut down just before the French Revolution. The children there would dress in red, a sign of Christian charity. The building has since become something of a landmark in the Marais district. The market is always at its best on Saturdays, where you’ll find people shopping and eating at one of the many Moroccan, Italian, Lebanese or Japanese delis and stalls selling fruit and veg, fish, organic and regional and flowers, amongst other things. A great place to visit and indeed shop.

Inside, the enchanting black bar, sophisticated cocktails, softened light and a Brazilian-inspired menu set the scene for a tropical party just a stone’s throw away from the Jardins du Marais in Paris.

Housed in an impressive 1,500m2 loft bathed in light, located opposite the Hôtel Les Jardins du Marais in central Paris, Merci is one of the capital’s most beautiful concept stores. What sets this shop apart is the fact that all profit is sent to Madagascar, via a foundation, to help women and children. You can find an eclectic mix of items at Merci. The shop has a very homely feel to it, as you can walk from room to room, taking in the perfumes, flowers and dog accessories in addition to items of clothing designed by Stella McCartney, Azzaro and Isabel Marant, amongst others.
